The successful candidate must be comfortable in providing a comprehensive general internal medicine service, including acute care except ICU. All Department members participate in the general internal medicine on-call responsibility, approximately on 1 in 7 basis. The program manages an in-centre dialysis unit and 1 independent patient dialysis unit in Prince George and community dialysis units in Fort St John and Terrace BC. The program has a very active independent (home hemodialysis and PD) program, a large chronic kidney disease clinic program. It also supports renal transplant with pre- transplant assessment and post transplant care after discharge from Vancouver transplant centres. The program is exploring innovative approaches to deliver high quality renal care in a large geographic area. The program is fully integrated with the BC Provincial Renal Agency (www.bcrenalagency.ca) The successful candidate will be eligible for licensure as a specialist in the Province of British Columbia and will be certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent. The successful candidate will rotate with colleagues in a shared care model between clinics, private office practice, inpatient and dialysis service and with significant amounts of time free of program responsibilities to pursue other interests which may include teaching within the Northern medical program at an undergraduate or postgraduate level within a closed internal medicine Clinical Teaching Unit, research within the University of Northern BC, or work within regional programs. Consideration of assuming the Director role for the program would be an option for a candidate with appropriate experience. All members of the Department do a modest amount of general internal medicine on call responsibility, which will be on an approximately 1 in 7 basis.
